Description
Now that you’ve learned about your house as a system with its various technical components, come learn how your house fits in to the larger ecosystem surrounding you. Permaculture is a design system and set of techniques for creating resilient human habitats and healthy ecosystems. It is modeled on ecological principles and covers a wide range of design areas including food production, shelter, energy, water, culture and economics. The easiest way to frame permaculture is in terms of landscape planning and management. Think edible landscaping with the great-grandchildren in mind. Imagine designing gardens as whole ecosystems that integrate house with landscape and people with place. We will discuss permaculture as wholistic landscape design and management, and we will examine a case study of a young edible forest garden.
