September 2011 Green Eggs and Tour: Green Airports
Green Eggs: 7:30 – 9:00 AM
Tour: 10:00 – 11:30 AM
Program Description
Airports are faced with unique challenges regarding building, operating, and sustainability. This presentation will focus on the Portland International Jetport, how the airport is expanding, and how sustainable ideals are impacting the Jetport’s growth. A case study will also be presented on the Jetport’s new geothermal system.
Additionally, an overview will be presented on several programs and publications of the Federal Aviation Administration; the Volunteer Airport Low Emission (VALE) Program; the Solar Guide; and the Sustainability Pilot Program. Please join us as we discuss the current state of sustainable development as it relates to airports.
Tour Description
Following the Green Eggs presentation, you’re welcome to join us for a tour of the new Portland Jetport addition. The tour will examine the addition through the lens of LEED – the project is aiming for Gold – and we’ll also hear about the project’s expansive geothermal system from our tour guide, boots-on-the-ground architect and Assistant Facilities Manager at the Jetport, Cuyler Feagles.
