Green Homes Lecture Series
What: A six-week lecture series designed to help homeowners make good, green decisions about their homes. If you're considering a home renovation, an upgrade to your home's systems, or just want to learn more about greening your home, then this series is for you!
When: Tuesday evenings starting March 30: 3/30, 4/6, 4/13, 4/20, 4/27, 5/4

Session 1: "Greening" Your Home Overview and Financing
Session 1 will kick off the Green Homes Lecture Series with a bang! This is an important session to attend. Peter Taggart of Taggart Construction will provide an in-depth overview of green building what it means to "green" your home: Energy efficiency, occupant health and environmentally friendly! Learn about available financing, incentives and tax rebates and talk one-on-one with financiers during a break-out session. Finally, we'll provide a brief introduction to the following five sessions. You don't want to miss it!
Session 2: Evaluating Your Home
Learn how to evaluate your home from the experts at Horizon Residential Energy. What exactly are YOUR home's systems? Self-assessment and consumer tools; understanding the data; energy audits; water and energy usage, etc. Then, join us for an interview with Chris Briley where he will provide answers to the important questions you need to be asking.
Session 3: Your Home's Core Systems
Learn about your "house as a system" from three distinguised professionals who are intimately involved with creating healthy, energy efficient solutions in the form of beautiful, high-performance homes. We'll cover the building envelope, insulation strategies, mechanical systems and alternative energy systems.
Session 4: Kitchens and Baths
Green materials, hardware and processes; Accommodating green kitchen practices; Water and energy efficiency; Non-toxic maintenance.
Session 5: Healthy Homes
Learn how to keep your home and its occupant healthy! We'll cover material choices, building components, indoor air quality, ventilation, basement issues, leaks and moisture.
Session 6: Landscape
Ken Fengler
Your yard: Safe, healthy and tasty! Learn the principles of permaculture, including the edible landscape, from Lisa Fernandes, Maine's premier permaculture expert. Hear from Irene Brady Barber of O'Donal's Nursery about xeriscaping, rain gardens and functional landscape. Ken Fengler will speak teach us about hardscape, permeable paving and the importance of drainage.

Cost to attend: $10 per session or $50 for the six-session package.
