LEED ® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally-recognized green building certification system. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, it provides third-party verification that a building achieves measurable, sustainable standards in five categories: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.  This technically-rigorous verification is provided by the independent Green Building Certification Institute.  LEED covers both commercial and residential sustainable building design, construction, renovation, and operations and maintenance.  An organization’s participation in the voluntary LEED process demonstrates leadership, innovation and environmental stewardship.
