LEED Rating System

LEED® is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. LEED rating systems are developed through an open, consensus-based process led by LEED Committees. Each volunteer committee is composed of a diverse group of practitioners and experts representing a cross-section of the building and construction industry.

The LEED building certification system has several areas where it can measure a project’s green qualities through a suite of rating systems:

  • New Construction
  • Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance
  • Commercial Interiors
  • Core & Shell
  • Schools
  • Retail
  • Healthcare
  • Homes
  • Neighborhood Development

LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
