Avesta Housing’s Pearl Place Development in Portland received two LEED for Homes-Gold certifications in 2008. Pearl Place, owned by Avesta and built by Ledgewood Construction, is an affordable housing development consisting of 60 units, 65,000 square feet and two buildings. The project holds the distinction of being the first LEED for Homes affordable housing project in Maine, the first multifamily LEED for Homes project in Maine and the very first mid-rise building in the country to be certified under the LEED for HOMES Mid-Rise Pilot Guidelines. The project also received a Green Communities grant (first in Maine) from Enterprise Foundation and met Maine State Housing Authority’s Green Building Standards. It is part of a larger revitalization effort by the Bayside Neighborhood Association and the City of Portland to redevelop the residential neighborhood that once thrived in Bayside.
