The College of Education, Health, and Rehabilitation at the University of Maine at Farmington is situated to take advantage of solar orientation and natural daylighting. The intent and challenge of the CEHR design was to design an environmentally sensitive building by adopting the LEED criteria on a modest ($115/SF) budget while at the same time providing architecture that is sympathetic to its surroundings.
The Farmington campus is known for its “green” stance at all levels, so the design has taken advantage of an array of sustainable materials and practices:
- Geothermal heating and cooling
- High-performance wall systems
- Local materials and workmanship
- Incentives for recycling and responsible transportation
- Sustainable landscape design
LEED Standing: LEED Silver
