The addition of the Advanced Engineering Wood Composites Laboratory included a pilot plant for Oriented Strand Lumber/Oriented Strand Board (OSL/OSB), the only such product development and testing facility in Maine. The new Resin Infusion Laboratory houses an integrated system for strictly controlled fabrication and testing of composite materials, a unique and important national defense R&D resource supporting the US Army and Navy. With WBRC’s expertise, this project provided UMaine its first application for LEED Certification. Products created through the lab’s research were used throughout the construction, highlighting the applied design and testing capability of the research and development activities. Furthermore, the expanded office space has brought new scientist, engineers, and support personnel to the facility.
